ALS Fundraiser: Reunion 1977 Grey Cup 40th Anniversary

During the course of his life, former Montreal Alouettes Tony Proudfoot wore many hats: player, coach, teacher, radio host, father , friend and a leading figure in the fight against ALS. 40 years later, we remember him as a Canadian football hero.

It’s November 27, 1977.The Montreal Alouettes and Edmonton Eskimos are fighting for the Grey Cup at the Olympic Stadium in exceptional weather conditions: the field is covered with ice. The game is far from won until #23, Tony Proudfoot, comes into play.

The defensive back sees an industrial stapler, which gives him the brilliant idea of stapling his teammates’ shoes to give them more traction. The now forbidden practice allows the team to win the game and its 4th Grey Cup.
